ok, not what's on my list, but what's potentially on my shopping list...thinking of buying an ipad for monsieur medusa, but just wondered whether you can play the downloaded torrent files (films and tv programmes) on it...?

also, it's shed loads cheaper in the uk, if i buy it there, will it work here (the version that takes a sim card)...alternatively, it's also on sale on emiratesavenue.com for about 1k less than sharaf...is that a legit site, or will there be issues if i get it from there with the wifi etc...?

great if anyone has any thoughts...thanks...

Video files - yes, VLC is available for iPad otherwise you need to convert using Handbrake or similar. I don't think all formats are supported but avi is for sure.

Any version will work fine here incl 3G although you will need a Micro SIM and of course a data plan.

Emiratesavenue - haven't used them but believe OK. You won't have any problems regarding 3G or wifi but maybe warranty.

iPad 2 is due for release in April....

Emirates Avenue is fine, we use them, infact Atilla got his iphone from them. The owner is a really nice guy and his prices are very competitive

I bought Mr Meow a iPad for his birthday back in September and it has proved to be really useful. I had one brought over from Apple in the UK as it was much cheaper than buying here. No issues with playing downloads.

Took us a while to make the most of it, but I am sure Monsieur Medusa will love it.

Personally I could do with some DVD porn to keep me out of trouble while the family are away but our usual Chinese DVD lady has gone AWAL. Any ideas?

oh cool thanks...just to double check then, you can play films that you've downloaded on it (do you just use a usb to transfer), and do you need any other software...?

Going back to the UK so hoping that the snow arrives the day after I get there and has vanished completely by the time I leave - so that I can leave!

I wanted a kindle and a new sat nav but bought both of those myself a couple of weeks ago. I want a lift-kit for the Jeep but my driving skills are not quite up to it so have to wait for a bit longer. Apart from that, I am set. A nice bottle of wine would be great and a slab of decent cheese.

Am looking forward to four days of doing nothing more strenuous than taking the dogs for a walk via the pub and watching crap on TV. Praying that the family behave otherwise the dogs will get a walk every day thats lasts all day!!

I don't know how you do it!

I think you transfer using the standard iPod style cable. There are loads of useful applications, but I really don't know about software. I think they come with enough to get you started and the rest you can download.

Auto has an iPad and he'll be far more useful than me. I didn't get the point of it until I started using it, but I really like it. I download The Times everyday and you can read it much like a newspaper

iPads don't have USB ports, so I am not sure how you transfer, there must be some way of doing it though
