Re: What's a proper watch?

I absolutely love watches....my very first watch was a Tag....brought over 2 decades ago...I still got it....from the Tag I got a Omega (had 2)....again a very nice brand....when I went to the states last yea I decided to splurge and got myself another Tag...I've always wanted to get a Rolex which I could have got, instead of the Tag, but the Rolex I want is almost 3 times the cost of the Tag and so will have to wait until either I retire or marry a rich arab :p

agree the Superocean is nice. pity they don't do one with a nice bracelet that fits snug to the case. would really suit that type of watch more than the mesh strap.

I looked up some of those watches.

I can't justify spending half a month's salary on a watch

Latex and leather also available. So as kinky as you like it.

I like the Glycine. They have some other nice watches in that range. I'm looking for a nice clean face with a true 24 hour movement.

yes the Glycine is very nice. a lot smaller than I usually wear but getting used to it. thought about the 24hour purist version but thought it would be a headache

I've had a brietling aerospace since 1998 , a limited edition of 12. Rarely worn now as I need to put on my specs to read time and date...
Day to day and for sport is a Garmin forerunner 235, easy to use...and see!

a smart watch will be a better option. you can do a lot more than just watch the time..

Re: What's a proper watch?

For a proper watch I'd say Rolex or Patek.

With any other brands you'll be seriously hurting if you ever decide to sell. Breitling, IWC, Tag are the first watches you buy when you get a little cash in your pocket and know little about watches. You learn the very expensive way when you come to sell, that these are nothing more than massively hyped overpriced fashion brands even if you bought with a significant discount. Not to say they don't make some beautiful watches and I have an IWC in my collection.

However, when anyone asks me which watch to buy, I always tell them the same thing. "Go and try some on, Dubai is a watch lovers paradise. Then get the one that sings to you the most."

Absolutely. And it must be Swiss.

Re: What's a proper watch?

I used to make printing plates for a company that restored Rolex and Patek Philippe watches.
Creating the artwork and getting it to print that fine but clear enough so the plates etched smoothly was a right pain in the arse.

Nothing to do with recommending a watch, I know, but this thread just reminded me of when I used to have an interesting job….
