An expensive engagement ring.
A husband with a flat stomach and who makes a lot of money.
A husband who will always say 'yes darling' and stay out of the way.

Those type of men don't usually make it to being called husband as they become very boring very quickly.
When I was younger any man that let me tramp all over them in my 6" heels I'd refer to them as puppy dogs , very sweet but not much backbone.

Mrs Ethos might disagree
I'll find out after this weekend. But I've discovered that what usually happens is that she gets her way 90% of the time, I get my way 10% of the time and the most important decisions are in that 10%. She seems to like the arrangement as it gives her the feeling of being in control yet the real responsibilities are on my shoulders.

However we're looking at having a house built, we've set a budget and the rest is left up to what I want.

Its an individual thing, its not what do women want? Its what does your woman want? We are as individual as men are.
But if i must generalise, then women want stimulation (both physical and intellectual), attention, and to be made to laugh. Is that any different from men?

Women are not some kind of weird unknowable mystical creatures. We are actually human and mainly just want the company of a decent human being.

We also really like it if you can make a good cup of tea, mix a drink, make cheese on toast and understand that it is necessary to own 27 lipsticks and 18 nail polishes all in similar shades.
Not being a mysognistic git also helps.

Re: What is it that women want ?
Agree every woman is different and of course what we want depends on what they have had, what they have now, what time of the month it is, and what they think they want.
How often you get exactly what you want is pretty much never as the perfect man doesn't actually exist. And then often what you think you want isn't what you want at all.And when you get what you want you want something else.
What you should be asking is what do you want now. Then maybe deliver 80% of that so she sees there is work to be done. Women like projects and teaching men something. No woman likes a man that rolls over and does everything he is asked to, but also no woman likes a man that has been taught to be perfect by another woman.

I actually can't think of anything worse!
I would like an engagement ring that has some meaning- cost is meaningless ( although etiquette is 3 times the mans salary)
A husband with a flat stomach- rarely does a contented man keep a flat stomach- and who wants a husband who is never there as he works such long hours to make lots of money- I'd rather have one who earns a modest salary but has time and energy for me and isn't shagging the receptionist.
And what fun is a man who says yes darling and stays out the way. A man should have an opinion, hopefully you'd agree most of the time and thats why you are married to each other as you want the same things, then when you disagree you can thrash it out one way or another and have rows and great make up sex. Then the woman can get her way.
Men have balls and women like it when they take charge every once in a while. Not too often mind
