And as much as you might believe that the top dogs at Fox chose that slogan as a description of it providing a balance against the liberal media, far too often, its less informed viewers will use it as a rallying cry and proof that what is broadcast is cold hard fact.

As I've said. An Apple is an Apple. That is a fact. But far too often, if an Apple would make the Democrats look good, or worse, the Republican's bad, they'll claim it's an Orange.

To quote Stephen Colbert. Reality has a liberal bias.

Have you ever considered that rather than claiming that the media is biased to the left, that the cold hard facts of this world is that the right is wrong?

(I'm not saying that they are – I'm just saying that in most cases, if there is only one out of a group stating a 'fact' that is so different to what the others are saying is a 'fact' that maybe, just maybe that one on the outside is wrong).

It is the rights job (conservatives if you prefer) to impede or slow down "progress". Over time the left always wins. Over time not meaning a couple of years.

Yes, I considered it for about 20 seconds. That's the time it took to check voting split and political affiliation surveys to find it's 50/50 give or take in spite of all liberal media bombardement.

when and why exactly did the word liberal become a bad thing in america?

really its a serious question.

i am by any account a fairly right wing conservative, in america though it appears that i am a communist these days.

its clear that there is no winning of this argument no convincing you but the truth will always be the truth, fox spouts utter rubbish and it fools millions as it does so, their being convinced alters the underlying truth not one jot though.
sorry but its true, fox is political propaganda entitled but entirely unrelated to news.

Some profound words from JFK.

And you're right shiva. I won't deny I'm a liberal, but I do agree with the right on some things.

However, America's right doesn't know how to compromise anymore. It's their way or no way. As demonstrated on several occasions by the GOP controlled house.

And why Obama isn't making more of the obstructionist house is beyond me. He should be calling them out.

Poor liberals, under threat of extinction from Fox. Seriously, did you read this before posting?

Nine out of ten media outlets exhibit some sort of liberal bias and they get half the vote. So how the **** are liberals unloved / vilified or whatever the hell you are suggesting here??!

Contrary, now they do know how to compromise with the Democrats. Since Tip O'Neill screwed Reagan, the Republicans are a bit more careful.

But thanks God the founding fathers were wise enough to set up a system of checks and balances between the President and the Congress. So any time the presidency and the congress are not held by the same party, the spending is at least contained to an extent.

The US media being liberal is sort of right and sort of wrong.

They are liberal when it comes to homosexuality
They are liberal when it comes to abortion / woman's choice
They are liberal when it comes to immigration reform
They are liberal when it comes to gun control (the media comes off as hating the 2nd amendment)
They are liberal when it comes to publicsing tea party , conservative overt racism.

Yet
The so called liberal media pays lip service to institutional racism in the justice system and police brutality.
The media hardly ever seriously criticises US foreign policy, or shows graphic images and numbers of all the Iraqis killed in the Gulf war and the Iraq war.
The media ignores the actions of US multinationals, especially resource mining companies in developing countries.
The media does not critically report on Israeli actions
The media does not criticise the Saudis and other GCC countries.
The media barely covers Tibet and the Uighurs

American media is only liberal on issues that doesn't really upset the established order. They are very much right wing, just not the sort of right wing that is identified with the Tea Party or Paleocons.

So the GOP has the media licked just don't realise that.

You are ill-informed.

Antiwar sentiment was covered quite well and always has been. For gods sake the media lost the Vietnam war for the US. You will find plenty of ... how did you put it.... 'critical reporting' on Israel so far that Bibi Netanyahu called NYT (and Haaretz) the biggest enemies of Israel. The don't criticise Saudis but they don't criticise Azerbaijanis, Ivory Coast or Zimbabwe either. And as far as Tibet and ..... Uighurs is concerned - you're taking piss, right.

After Vietnam ,War reporting is piss poorly reported. Government pressure and a compliant MSM meant reporting on the Gulf war and Iraq was not done critically like Vietnam.

Israel barely receives criticism. NYT like all MSM went along with BushCo on Iraq war. If the media truly really stood for muckracking critical investigation and reporting, the public would have never fallen for Bush/Cheney lies.

Haaretz isn't American. NYT like all American media is rather tame when compared to Haaretz on Israeli news. A few articles here and there that take a somewhat critical stance on Israel is hardly being a critical media, after all any news media needs to convince the masses they are as unbiased as can be.

As far as Tibet and Uighurs go, where is the constant in depth attention from American media? Does the media ignore these 2 issues because neither are influential on the world stage and because corperate America doesn't want to upset China.

Do you really feel it is necessary to point out that Haaretz is not American? I mean, if you aren't capable of deducing, based on all previous exchange, that i am superbly informed, then your perception and reasoning are really at a low level as suggested by your entries.

The rest of your entry is equally nonsensical. Can you imagine a staff meeting at say CNN and somebody says 'I will cover the plight of Uighurs'. Who cares about Uighurs (other than BBC who don't have to bother about the trivialities such as earning one's keep). I have had a pleasure of living in several countries and follow a multitude of media editions and I can tell you that mainstream media cares not about some fringe leftist issues. So to have a liberal bias a media does not need to go to extremes to please every bearded, sandal wearing, three hugging lefty. It is more than enough to stay within mainstream lefty issues.
