Ok when I lived in AD, the general consensus was that non Locals should not wear the Kandura+Gotra lest you get into sticky situations with locals.

Is it a No No for non Khaleeji, especially Asians,Westerners and Africans to wear the National dress?

If locals wear Western dress, why should it not be acceptable for anyone else to wear local dress?

#devil's advocate

I wore one to a fancy dress party, have to say urinal time when taking a piss was significantly reduced due to the ease of access.

I could have gone commando also but thought shorts underneath was prudent in case I was ran down by a bus at some point in the evening.

Having no pockets is a pain in the ass (not literally as I had to have some one carry my stuff) but the addition of arse pockets could revolutionise this garment

Is it khandoora (with a soft c) or kandoora (with a hard c)? I've never been able to figure it out

Some frown on it
Some would like to beat you to death for it
Others don't care
And some are proud youd wear their national dress.
I know a few non locals who wear one on occasion with no issues but unless you speak Arabic I'd steal clear.

Oh and they do have pockets, one on each side usually

seems like the majority of the finances and imagination required for that party went into the refreshments rather than the costumes.

However on the plus side, if I ever have to wear one I will know now not to skimp on quality

And make sure it isn't too thin either. The cheap ones can leave very little to the imagination

No chance of that, I had the entrance door specifically back lit by 500 watt halogens at an elevated angle.
I cast a impressive silhouette I can tell you.

You mean Sudanese Arabs? If so then the argument could be that as they are Arabs and it is their cultural dress, it's ok. But Sudanese don't wear the Guthra/Gotra, rather some sort of white turban.
