What causes population growth?

Economic need? Social pressure? Cultural factors? The desire of parents to have children who can look after them in their old age?

Er, no actually................

Cheaper and more efficient food production as a result of green revolution made possible because of the oil-based economy?

Ah...shagging. Never mind.

I find it amazing that there is such a thing as the Optimum Population Trust:rofl::rofl: Have we gone completely mad?

According to their "about us" page they are a registered charity with 30+ on the payroll, including Sir Richard Attenborough, nice work if you can get it:)

We all like a good shag, no surprise there...except some of us use contraception to ensure we're not making babies everytime we want to get our leg over.

The problem isn't shagging - it's contraception and family planning...or rather lack of it. And those things are due to religion, culture and plain old lack of education.

Re: What causes population growth?

The article barely mentions a significant factor - that some parts of the world are experiencing population decline. These are mainly in the developed world where women are not merely possessions of their husbands or fathers and enjoy having the choice of getting educated followed by getting a job. The Italian birth rate, for example, is now something like 1.6 babies per woman, and since I understand it still takes two adults to make a baby, couples are not replacing themselves.

Everywhere in the world where the population growth rate is soaring out of control are the very places where women have fewer rights - so it's not surprising they find there's not much to do apart from make babies.

Also - the world's population is unevenly distributed (85% live in the Northern Hemisphere) and is often nowhere near the most obvious food sources (e.g. the Pacific Ocean which is full of zillions of fish but they are too remote, or too deep, to be fished).

SEX IS MAIN CAUSE OF POPULATION GROWTH
I would have thought that was self evident. What I don't get though, is if sex is the main cause, that implies there are other causes. But what are they? Have Hyundai started manufacturing clones now?

So why is it considered offensive in the UK to call your son "Jesus"? They often do it in the Central/South American Catholic communities (pronouncing it "Hay-Zooce").

Quote from the blog......"Overall, Muslims account for 3 per cent of the British population, about 1.5 million people. However, the Muslim birthrate is roughly three times higher than the nonMuslim one."..........

If this is true then as the average UK family has 2 kids the Muslim population will increase by 9 million in the next generation (1.5mil x 6), say 20 years.

Then by 54 million the generation after that (9mil x 6).:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Don't any of you bother to accuse me of racism because I really don't care where you are from so long as you leave me alone.

5½ times more likely to go on holiday in Asia and twice as likely to live in Yorkshire than most other people.".......

(Am I allowed to say that? Thinking od Sudanese teddy bears and all?) Of course I don't mean the Prophet Mohammed PBUH.
