Football fans swearing and fighting, a total disregard for authority, and groups of drunken young adults (both male and female) urinating and vomiting on the ground in front of you.........

...... but this isn't a thread about the Barasti, so I'll shut up.......

I've recently been exposed to the word intit.

But seriously, who knows/uses their native language correctly? That's surely a bit global like.

I always lol'd at the French girls thinking the british girls were quite brutal for drinking pints. But then again, I like women who can drink pints. It's some level of gender equality I feel.

And on the topic of English girls...We should have sent women to race against Amundsen instead of Scott. They would have trashed him in high heels, with belts and bras.

James Fothergill, the CBI's head of education and skills, said: "Our recent research shows that 42% of employers are not satisfied with the basic reading and writing skills of school and college leavers and almost half have had to invest in remedial training to get their staff's skills up-to-scratch.

Shouldn't that be a nation of people who are mostly unable to correctly use their native language then? :p

To continue the debate;

Top 3 things about Britain

1. The history
2. Sports - Rugby, Golf, Football (ish), Cricket
3. The Weather. I enjoy a temperate climate, more than hot or hotter

Worst 3 things about Britain

1. The History - sometimes a little embarrassing..."didn't we own you once?" "yes, you swapped rum and blankets for our land"..."yeah, sorry about that"
2. Tax
3. Laziness.

I don't think Brits are lazy. However, there is a culture of entitlement in some groups which often causes refusal to play fair.

On my recent visit I met up with my mates who own businesses in the building industry - they are still working 12+ hour days 6 days a week. They subcontract some of it and generally always try and use British labour as they hate the idea of 'selling out'

A Brit labourer wants 80-90 quid a day and will turn up at 9.30am with a whole bunch of excuses as to why he wasn't on site at 8am. The Pole will be here at 7.50am and wants 70quid a day.

Agreed, laziness not fair, I meant that sense of 'entitlement'.

They are different but the latter is a killer in the UK for some sections / classes.

Someone else beat to the sense of entitlement rather than laziness.

On the history side all nations have done wrong, we certainly were not the first nation to invade people, take slaves or get involved in wars - if you look up the good things Britain gave to the world it outweighs the bad.

This is quite a good point. A lot of Eastern Europeans are doing jobs that Brits refuse to do, as they consider such jobs "beneath them". Yeah, right, their previous job, if they had one, was Managing Director of Shell, was it?

That's unbridled socialism for you coupled with a decline of national cultural pride I suppose.

you also forget our contribution to technological and scientific advance. We pretty much drove the industrial revolution and I think I read somewhere that the majority of the world's inventions have come from Britain.
