Website Biographies

Hiall,

I'm in the process of updating my websites and am rewriting my biogs, do you think biogs should be 3rd person or not? remember I'm a creative so don't have to be as rigid as a suit.

Feedback appreciated.

Surely you would simply be adding to your biog's, or am I missing something completely here...???

completely revamping it as its quite out of date and dont need to put my entire life story- just what i've been up to recently and my clients.

OK, still none the wiser, but ok...

Hmmm, to be 3rd party, or not to be 3rd party...

Suppose it depends on whether you want all the people who read your blogs/websites to think you have developed schizophrenia....

:sunglasses:don't write it third party, it will seem like you are narrating your life and not in a good way.

Re: Website Biographies

not a fan of third party Bio writing. May work for creative types though.

Plenty of it going on at Abu Dhabi Art Exhibition last weekend.

One artist who went by the name of Jemimah Puddleduck or something like that did just that but took it a step further and went on about how she was born conjoined to her twin (only by the ear) and how that influenced her. Her work was bloody ace though.

Re: Website Biographies

Just to be different. I vote 3rd party. First person is unprofessional.

Better still, go third person and half way switch to first. That's always a nice touch.

Why not record yourself doing an interpretative dance of the highs and lows of your career so far?

The best ones are those who pretend not to be but actually are. I'm sure we can cut a deal.

3rd person comes off as poncy.

Re: Website Biographies

As you're the brand, I'd write it in first person. If you need someone to take a look over it for you, I'm more than happy to help. :)

Or if you're writing it from the company's perspective.

not really. It just shows that people posting here do not pitch for things via a company led proposal format. Or if they do, they do not do it well.

Every marketing document I have ever seen, including the ones I'm in, are always written in the third person... Then again, it's the company selling the staff in most instances so it's a bit different I guess...

if you've got a pony tail, pointy shoes and greasy hair go 3rd person

if you're not a twat then don't

Can someone link to a pic of said type of shoe? I have seen pointy shoes mentioned before and my curiosity is piqued.

^^^Thanks for the answer.

For some reason the 80s song " We can dance if we want to " rings in my head after looking at that shoe.

So who wears those, Lebs?:D

I'd agree. But have a look at Linkedin per say, and people writing their bio's in 3rd person. They probably didn't, but it looks and reads ridiculous. Also, postmoderism. Maybe shouldn't mention such a foul word, probably get old text books thrown at me by my fellow BE members now.

Re: Website Biographies

in defence, I met a lad at a party who seemed a bit good, I asked him to send me his cv and it was all in the 3rd person and I didn't like it at all. Sent it up the line and they all said no, I gave him a job anyway and he was a star, so much so those who rejected him nicked him - never judge a book by its cover

Eva Nov 24th 2011 4:28 pm

Re: Website Biographies

Agree with Millhouse and Auzdafluff.

3rd person then it's a biog(written by another of course)

1st person by the 'brand' therefore not a biog but an autobiog.

Let auzdafluff write it and all good.....

Sorry I know it's anal....

Can someone post an example of what is/isn't being talked about please?
