Suggestions for a good computer virus protection program, please :D
[For my computer. But I'm still expecting half the replies to be, well, you know...] |
Re: Virus protection
microsoft security essentials
AVG Avast all free all great DO NOT EVER use any norton or mcafee anti virus products, just dont they are shit and will **** up your system. if anyone reading this has these, shoot yourself then remove them. oh except you cant and will need to download special removal tools because these things are shite and the devils own spawn |
Re: Virus protection
Free ones I use are:
Runs in the background full time http://free.avg.com/ww-en/homepage Cleaner/checkers: http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/ http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download And, of course, always wear a condom. |

You can get a free download which is very good or you can choose to pay for an upgraded version. I have the free version and have never had any problems :) |

Re: Virus protection
I use ESET - it's paid for but has picked up other checkers didn't including F-Secure and McAfee
|
Re: Virus protection
I can second, ESET, good program, minimal messing about, updates daily and has picked up dodgy things that others didnt

Re: Virus protection
Due to needing to use M$ Office 2010 occasionally, because some unthinking person used special marks in some of our long lasting, editable documents and then saved in .docx, I use Microsoft Security Essentials in my small W7 dual boot partition. Although I have to admit I'm not using W7 for my everyday web usage. If you think you're infected even then, use an online virus scanner as last resort or just reinstall Windoze (probably takes less time than rooting out problems with virus/trojans tbh)
You 'may' like to learn how to install Linux Mint 32bit Mate in dual boot mode with W7 for your day to day usage, then you can pretty much say goodbye to viruses forever. The poster talking about Nortons not being that good is simplifying the issue. When so many people use a particular software, it becomes the number one target for virus writers. "Even Nortons cannot save you." |
Re: Virus protection
I use Avast, it's been rock solid for years. It's starting to get a little big and hefty though, so might be time to consider going back to AVG, but that was a hefty resource hog which is why I gave it up in the first place.
Anyone tried the Panda Cloud? - http://filehippo.com/download_cloud_antivirus/ For everything else, once in a while - http://filehippo.com/download_malwar..._anti_malware/ http://filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/ http://filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/ |
