The Virgin letter has been around for a while now.

Here's a new one ....

'An in-depth and thorough tour of the Caribbean': Arthur Hicks's letter to LIAT

Dear LIAT,

May I say how considerate it is of you to enable your passengers such an in-depth and thorough tour of the Caribbean.

Most other airlines I have travelled on would simply wish to take me from point A to B in rather a hurry.

I was intrigued that we were allowed to stop at not a lowly one or two but a magnificent six airports yesterday.

And who wants to fly on the same airplane the entire time? We got to change and refuel every step of the way!

I particularly enjoyed sampling the security scanners at each and every airport. I find it preposterous that people imagine them all to be the same.

And as for being patted down by a variety of islanders, well, I feel as if I’ve been hugged by most of the Caribbean already.

I also found it unique that this was all done on 'island time', because I do like to have time to absorb the atmosphere of the various departure lounges.

As for our arrival, well, who wants to have to take a ferry at the end of all that flying anyway?

I’m glad the boat was long gone by the time we arrived into Tortola last night — and that all those noisy bars and restaurants were closed.

So thank you, LIAT. I now truly understand why you are 'The Caribbean Airline'.

P.S. Keep the bag. I never liked it anyway.

Speaking of Virgin Group, I've always wondered why Richard Branson had chosen the name Virgin for his group of companies. I’d initially though it was because of his Catholic belief, until I realized that I couldn’t be more naive because the guy is actually not a religious person at all. I am now beginning to think that the name was meant to have a sexual theme, given the kind of fantasies Mr. Robinson were known to have entertained. He was actually known among his peers to be quite experimental when it came to sex.

For example, his first marriage collapsed because he and his then wife got themselves involved in a naughty game that went terribly wrong. They basically got involved in a wife swapping game with another couple. After that encounter his wife seemed to have fallen for the husband of the other couple big time. She soon started having an affair with that man which ended up in her dumping Mr. Branson and ran off with the new man.

Needless to say that Mr. Branson has since stopped engaging in such games again as it was all too embarrassing to his bedroom reputation

His autobiog suggests the name was suggested by a junior employee at his first venture (albums by mail order undercutting the price in shops) to reflect the idea that it was 'something none of us have ever done before'........ if true, I think that's quite clever.........

........... and in terms of complaints, a good friend of mine back home managed to extract a sizeable chunk of compensation from a major multi-national with a letter that included the phrase 'a company is only as big as the size of its apology' which I also like very much.........
