Have seen lots of unconfirmed reports of deaths ranging from from 1 to 33 - I think there will have been some... Conference announced from MOI at 6pm.

Looks like tragic event.

It does look that way. I have seen pictures of people being carried out. Not good.

Just been confirmed, 13 children have died, 4 teachers and 2 Civil Defence personnel, 17 injured. Mostly civil defence staff.....

Very sad.

Terrible loss of life

Wonder if there is someone, responsible and accountable for installing the non functioning sprinkler system; if the reports are to be believed.

Terrible news - makes you wonder about Mall safety in the Gulf - I have never seen a fire drill in all the years we have been here only plenty of false alarms in tower blocks in the middle of the night. My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

You can rest assured that that particular can of worms is destined to remain shut and never mentioned ever again.

I was never in any fire drills - but there were real fires in both the building I lived in Abu Dhabi and in Al Khudrawi on the shoreline. Both times the alarm was intermittent and there was chaos.

It sounds like it was a total cock up in that mall with restricted access, no plans, no sprinklers, only one narrow entrance to the kids area... Beggars belief.

They'll have to have some answers - The world cup isn't too far away and the world is watching to see how they deal with this.

It was shameful that they were awarded the World Cup in the first place. But we all know why.

At least the IOC had the sense to keep their hands off the brown envelopes.

I was in Doha yesterday and today....just come back home and seen this tragedy, it's horrific.

Appalling.

One would think since malls in the Gulf are so vast that whenever a fire breaks out there's plenty of room for people to get away from the fire and out of the mall. It must be how the children's play area was situated or closed off from the rest of the mall that allowed it to be engulfed by the fire so quickly.
