Paying taxes including VAT is a give & take activity. There has to be a balance for it to be a win/win situation for both parties. For example if there was a VAT being charged in UAE, what exactly would I be getting in return? And I'm not talking about citizenship or permanent residency. In my opinion that has nothing to do with taxes and is just certain nationalities dreaming....

VAT is somewhat optional. It is not applied to food and essentials in most cases.

The point in making is that I prefer consumption based taxes vs income or other forms of direct taxation In effect you can choose the level of tax you pay by what you consume.

I'm not sure you could survive without paying it. IF you could, it would be wholly miserable.
