My wife said she wanted something that went from zero to 200 in under 3 seconds - I've bought her a set of bathroom scales.

Sounds good. Which Carluccio's do you recommend (don't worry, I won't be going on 14th), and is it / are they licenced?

kittycat - there is nothing wrong with romance, after however many years, but to be told you have to behave a certain way on an arbitrary day? That's daft. Showing love and being romantic is not about following the herd. It's about kind thoughts and gestures throughout your life together.

Have some imagination and be romantic on other days and in other ways. Receiving flowers and chocolates is nice, but I'd far rather be given them 'just because' than on a day when everyone does.

And generally, FYI, some Quite Interesting facts about St Valentine's Day:

Option 4 for me, but don't get off without spending money - it's also our wedding anniversary!

Bit of Scottish cunning there - one less date to forget and one meal/present/card to cover both events, saving a bit of cash. Hats off sir.

I wish! First year she insisted on a present for both. I gave her a single earing for each! I have to say, it does help for remembering the date, which is kinda sad since it really was the happiest day of my life. This year, I actuallly braved MoE and bought her a dress and hand bag. I know nothing about either producst, but I think she appreciated the gesture.

Ironically, it just happened to be the date we wanted in Brazil. They don't even celebrate St Valentines on the 14th Feb in Brazil!

Not licensed, all Carluccios are same menu, limited choice, nothing cooked from scratch and generally poor service.

I left the UK for Dubai Feb 14th 2008, will be going back this year but one of the correct decisions I have made in my life was coming to Dubai. In the main I have loved it.

I met with Mr. Carluccio in his Neal Street Restaurant in London a number of years ago. He was very interested in what I thought of his funghi, and I mean genuinely.

Like a lot of "Celebrity" places (I met Gorden at Verre for example), the franchise is shit, but the owner does care.

I had to laugh at this comment from the Daily Mail on the story saying women prefer hugs to diamonds on Valentines Day...

"I've always taken my wife up the OXO Tower for Valentine's Day - it truly is a special day.
- The Real Prophet, Kingston upon "

I've arranged her favourite flowers to be delivered.

She'll probably want to kill me at first but then I might, just might, get to take advantage...

It's bolleaux.... just another day that obliges men to buy expensive gifts in the vain hope that they'll get a bit of nooky in return.

That's what mentalist told me to say.
