Is that because in many other expat locations there is no material money bucket, no shit bucket or a combination of both?
Personally, the whole money-shit bucket doesn't fit well with me. I'm amazed what I see people accept in pursuit of filling the money bucket - I just wouldn't accept it regardless of money.

This then makes it hard to make lasting friendships. I feel I'm on my third cycle of friends now - and you do have to keep going with making friends, but it seems to get less easy each time.
So, what's left is the expat lifestyle, work and money. If work stopped being interesting for me, I'd be out of the place tout suite.

Does no one find it odd that the chap who died was apparently staying at the Burj al Arab. Did he seem like the type to have enough money to stay there for a week?
