UK General Election - place your bets now

We all know it will be happening before long, so what do you think the outcome will be? Note the question is not what result do you want, but what you think will happen.

It'll be vaguely interesting to see if we are right.

...suppose Labour voters in Scotland and Wales will get Labour back in again, despite England voting Tory and wishing to get rid of Brown & Co.

Garbage.

And Meow - very naughty of you to group UKIP and BNP together (if that was your intention?).

UKIP have a very good chance of defeating that odious shit Bercow in Buckingham, where (as per electoral tradition) Lab, Con and Lib Dem candidates are not put up against The Speaker - but UKIP are fielding Nigel Farage, perhaps the finest platform speaker in UK politics these days.

Locals are apparently seeing that as an opportunity to show their displeasure about the expenses scandal, without affecting the overall result.

As for the election itself, the polls always show Labour in a better light (percentage-wise) than usually turns out to be the case, so the Tories still have the advantage.

Farage? The man's an embarrassment...and Meow is right to band UKIP with the BNP. UKIP just have posher accents.

The "Who is Lord Pearson" entry is quite enlightening.

Re: UK General Election - place your bets now

The tories have slipped in the polls in the last month, which is surprising given how deeply unpopular Labour is and how incompetent Brown's administration has been.

But despite the narrowing of the polls between the two parties when it comes to just between Brown and Cameron, Cameron has a clear lead (42 to 27 according to one I saw last week in the Times).

So I imagine once the general election gets into full swing and it's all about Brown versus Cameron rather than the parties, the Tory lead will increase again and the party will eke out a small majority.

If, however, Brown manages to win then it's the end of the Tory party. The loss will be too demoralising for the party to recover. A bit extreme to say but if they cannot win this election against Gordon Brown, then how will the Tories ever win ?
