Default Uber and Careem suspended in AD

Uber and Careem services halted in Abu Dhabi | The National

The title says it all really. Wonder for how long.

I guess takings were down on the usual silver taxis. I've never used either Uber or Careem, silver taxis are everywhere here.

Maybe if the taxi men

a) showered
b) knew where they were going
c) put off their indian music
d) shut the ell up
e) drove faster
f) showered again
g) cleaned the cab

i might use them more

Maybe if YOU knew where YOU were going it might help too. They know pretty much everywhere on the Island, so i never have a problem, and not many of them smell, sure the odd one, tell them to switch channels, they always do, most of mine never speak to me, they get penalised if they go to fast as they have GPS that monitors their speed against the speed limit, and the cabs i get into are always clean.

I have once asked a cab to drop me off at Abu Dhabi mall, for me to subsequently walk in in the taxi in front of him. It stunk.

the Mrs tried to use booked RTA taxis in Dubai to get home from work at her previous school. It was at the time they do their shift change over so it was very difficult to get one and then if she did they often turned up 30 minutes late or not at all. She switched to Careem and it was well worth the little extra.

Yanni, we will soon launch a new daxi service called 'Boober', no relation to Uber ofcourse. Ours will be the biggest in the world and more importantly only we will make the money from it yakhi

The irony is that Uber and Careem are probably both losing tonnes of money here to provide the service in Abu Dhabi. The only ones making any money would be the limo company who are leasing the cars to the drivers.

As they are "Self employed" it's no real surprise. I bet they don't have proper visas for the job they are doing.

PS, I was up in Al Wathba on Thursday, the car lot is packed! (as is the misdemeanours jail).
