Re: Tourist arrivals.
I don't know all of the details, but the Chinese built a big road somewhere and on the back of that brought in their own materials and labour. Within the materials were lots of products which ended up being sold in the local markets putting the Kenyan traders out of business. If you go on safari you will find that almost half of the tour guides are Chinese putting the indigenous guys out of work.
I don't think that the Kenyan government could stop them as they were so indebted to the Chinese for the infrastructure. I think this is also happening in other parts of Africa.

The Chinese are building infrastructure all over Africa on this template , better still with mineral rights and access to ports . There's just a softer approach here but it's basically they'll finance it , that finance shall we call it as in delayed or deferred payments , visa allocations , exemptions of certain areas of specification .

They've taken over Cambodia already. Sihanoukville which was a quiet beach resort is completely unrecognisable now. And it's all happened so quickly.

Thanks all for the info, also explains why they're so keen to fund UK power plants.

Re: Tourist arrivals.
Doors are over rated. I generally like a view when taking a dump!
100%. Same has happened on a big (secret....ish) project on the east coast. The way they do business is shocking.
And dog shit would be a compliment.
Really? Haven't been to Snooky in a while. I did hear the beachfront has been developed quite a bit. Apparently Koh Rong is the place to go now.
Every supplier connected to the main contractor will be driven to the floor . Also they'll finance the job and it wont hurt them if they get payed late , hence the supplier gets payed late . Plus they don't use the local market enough .

Hotels and casinos only catering to Chinese, Chinese signage everywhere, locals priced out of the local property market etc etc.
