yes I believe this is possible. I have held a torch for someone I last saw many years ago, and is same for her.., we ten met last summer after 20 years (and did it), was like it was yesterday. We both believe we are in love.
She has 3 kids in the meantime and I've had numerous affairs, and co-habited with girlfriends various... yet I wouldnt want to break up her marriage and neither did I back then.

...so, can you ever be 100% "happily married"...but have a no strings attached affair with someone whom you love completely and utterly too...? ie, an affair with someone where neither of you want to leave the spouse for, but you're both totally obsessed with each other...

But to answer your question - yes you can. We make our own rules in any relationship - but if you don't have the consent of all parties involved you're being dishonest.

I concur with that last comment. You can have an affair and be happily married only so long as all parties involved agree with what's going on and are happy about it...for whatever reason. A secret affair may keep both married partners happy on the surface but, if the innocent party finds out, the so-called happiness would almost certainly end. I don't call that latter scenario a happy marriage.

Personally, I think no this can never work out in the long term, affairs only work when the mistress and mister are getting what they both want, whether that be casual sex at first at some point emotions get involved and someone will get hurt.
The grass is always greener but generally a guy will never leave his wife when given the choice- unless he gets thrown out so best not even go there. Same as f**k buddies- only works in the short term before someone gets too attached.
However, I also think most guys would stray if they thought they could get away with it! If they thought for a second they would lose everything that meant something to them if they sleep with this woman (and get caught)they probably wouldn't do it, problem is if it's got that far they aren't thinking with their brains.....
