Out of the 6 places you will not go for love nor money I have been to West Virginia (pretty good river rafting opportunities, loads of hillbillies), Saudi (I come here as I get paid!) and Somalia (can't remember exactly why, but we only stayed for about 1 hour).

I was in the middle of planning a monthlong trip to Terre del Feugo and Torres del Paine when I got the offer in Dubai and came out here instead. Still not sure if I made the right decision.

My wife and I are off to Malaysia in December. 5 nights in KL and 2 nights in Langkawi. To date, Muscat is the furthest East we have ever been.

We probably won't be leaving the resort in Langkawi so may I ask what the forum reckon are : -

1. "must do's" in Kuala Lumpur, and;

2. "you'd be crazy not to see XXX in Langkawi"

Not sure about KL, but in Langkawi:
i) the glass factory is kind of interesting
ii) diving off the south coast is pretty good
iii) cocktails at the Datai - the bar is at treetop level so fabulous view of birds flying past, monkeys etc
iv) day trip to Penang (not expensive) - if you've not been East before Georgetown is def worth a visit for good feel of Chinese SE Asia, go to Kuan Yin Temple in town and Kok Lok Si just outside and eat loads of street food

Been there before. You've seen the pictures, the real thing is much better.

Someone else mentioned Kathmandu - fabulous place too - get up very early and go to Durbar Sq. for truly magical experience.

i have some fabulous memories of Rio..corcovada, sugerloaf mountain, florida bar and the csandinavian bar, help bar on copa cobana beach..

Help bar was tame compared to the Florida bar by the docks..

I recall walking through the bar with a naked hooker on my shoulders..it was rather hot and sweaty..and smelly

Inverness over Glasgow needs some explanation. I can not understand that at all

Got so close to Samarkand, got to Tashkent, but could not stay in a hotel because of a misunderstanding by us about what the visa allowed us to do. Had had enough of roughing it by the time we got to Tashkent and headed back to Kazakhstan.
