To my mind, such an announcement simply demonstrates a lack of confidence in their own religion.

Cans see the extreme right wingers using this as a reason to burn down mosques in the West. Some people are really not thinking through the implications of this.

I think it's more to do with their belief that Islam is the only true religion so why should they allow any others.

Don't think they really do multiculturalism this crowd.

Broken link. Anyway, WFT is toleration?

"Toleration" means allowing people to practise their own religion and not enforcing your particular brand of Godliness on everyone else.

There were Churches in Saudi long before Islam. And there are many, many former churches in the Middle East that are now Mosques. There are many non-Christian houses of worship around the world that are now Mosques too.

I don't think the "extreme right wingers" (I think you mean extreme nationalists/christians and general bigots) need any reason to burn down mosques in the West. Most people who live near Mosques hate them because of the noise, parking problems and intimidation to move away. (look that up, it makes for a nice bedtime read of how Europe seems to be committing suicide by slow cuts).

Regarding this Fatwa, if it's confirmed it's nothing new for Saudi and will likely be ignored by most of the GCC...because it will inflame tensions and cause them bad international press they simply cannot afford.
