Fame doesn't automatically enable a person to change their character.

Sports people seemed to get raised to a level of role model completely undeserving of their actual character. After all, all they are good at is a certain sport. That doesn't automatically make them role models by any means.

Certainly some do, in the course of their work 'off the court / field etc' but what was Tiger Woods a role model for?

When he first came on the scene he was a role model for black youth. Then we was a role model for his family values. Then he was a role model for all his fundraising etc

Fact is - he wasn't a role model for any of those things. He just happened to be a young black fella that was good at golf. A normal human being in all other regards.

He would have known the risks but being the same as every bloke who cheats - he thought he'd get away with it.

how come he's a only a role model for Blacks? he's part thai, part american Indian and part euoprean.

All I'm saying is that when he came on the scene people in golfing circles and the media were saying that this will open a lot of doors for those people (lower class - generally black) in america who wouldn't have had the chances before.

That is to say, he was forecasted as being a role model for such people.

That never eventuated however.
Golf is still out of reach of many.

And let's be honest, while most know his heritage is a mix of many races......he is considered to black. He may be half thai or whatever but no one would refer to him as a Thai golfer.

None of this however, has anything to do with my point that sports people in general make poor role models and yet we elevate them to almost god like status (them and the likes of jade goody et al).
