The turn this thread took has made me sad. Yes, we are an incredibly mixed bunch but we are a little community and we should be mindful of the difference of banter and crossing the line.
Anyway, I hope we can all have a beer and build bridges.

I guess it's now the first night of the weekend in the ME and everyone's in Goodfellas or Barasti by now. It's all gone quiet!

You can't do that in the UK?

Shame, coz I was going to comment on someone who opens with "to be fair" when talking about himself. But I won't.

Miss Anne, I certainly didn't mean to offend you or anyone, if I did (and it would appear I did) then I apologise unreservedly to any/everyone.
It was meant in a humorous way (as that is the way it's always been "given" to me - as a form of banter), however as Scamp says, interpretation and context is never the same with the written word as it is when sat around a group in person.
Can we move on?

I'm offended that you're offended. Do we fight or hug?

Ok, I’m not in the ME, but the same rules apply here, more or less.
What do I do here that I don’t (or don't need to) do at home? Get into a fight (verbal, but very nearly physical) when someone tries to jump the queue.
Reservation via Expedia for 4 persons for 1 night (Saturday) at a 4* star hotel in Casablanca. Stayed there many times. Arrive, they only have a reservation for 3 for Saturday, plus 1 for Sunday – so we showed them the booking confirmation from Expedia. After 25 minutes they (the initial check-in clerk, subsequently joined by his female superior) still hadn’t got it sorted, despite them assuring us that they had rooms (“Well just give us the keys and you sort it out yourselves.” No response.) Several times I had to say to the clerk “Concentrate!” as he got distracted by other things going on. So, at this point (25 mins in), and drawing on Milly’s keen observation of a queue in the ME being one person long and 15 persons wide, the clerk is still staring confused at his computer screen when a guest comes up to the counter, ignores the female superior, and asks the clerk something in Arabic. Clerk promptly stops what he’s doing, leaves his computer and starts to approach the guest. Having had more than enough, I stood in front of the guest and firmly told the clerk to finish with us first, and then attend to other guests. Guest kicked off, hurling ****s and all sort of abuse; “I’m Algerian, where you from? I fight you, you mother****er, I fight you. I call the police.” I just stared him out, which made him angrier, then one of my colleagues weighed in with some F’s as well (I didn’t swear). After about 5 mins of continuous ranting and swearing he stormed off. (Without getting his query / request sorted, having persistently ignored the female clerk/supervisor.)
Is there any other part of the world where people believe they have the right to interrupt, and get so pissed off when they’re made to wait?

I tend to laugh at it all most of the time, occasionally get angry.

what really eff's me off is when you are in the lift and it's your turn to get out and the doors open, the people waiting to get in just barge in without giving you time or room to exit the lift....that seriously irritates the eff out of me.....
