To prove what? No STDs? They're not siblings? He can hold his weight on his elbows? I think we should be told...

I'm sure someone that knows me will correct me on this, but I think that's more of a genetic test. It's to make sure that they aren't so closely related that birth defects aren't a probability.

Shocking, as I know plenty welsh people that aren't subject to the same tests...

its to detect Thalasemia and anemia sickle, which aparently is more common here, so nothing saucy.

The main point of the medical exam is to check for various genetic illnesses such as thalassemia. If both are found to have the gene for thalassemia they are advised of the risks for any children and what they will need to do. The original idea was to discourage the couple from marrying but its had almost no success. As a result and due to extreme consanguinity a rare ressesive condition is at the highest levels any where on earth and uses about 50-75% of all blood supplies in the country.

Diabetes is also a problem which has been exacerbated by the interbreeding.

Apparently there's an institution somewhere remote that houses the poor unwanted offspring of many of these marriages .

A bit like the one The House Of Windsor have ;)
