Chief your starting point is your starting point , if you keep on with your simple easy to use plan you'll see great progress and that hopefully will turn into a more motivation.

As MH said earlier those Premier Online events are great. All ages and all abilities are there and some great encouragement and support . Its a great time to get involved as the weather is fantastic for outdoor training.

If i didn't train , run , swim and bike then i'd be 95KG . I only have it look at a Fray Bentos Pie and i put a stone on

Belive me im not built for speed either as i'm not far off 80kg and have to really work at it but the form is where the key is for me , if you have a decent core then with good form and a bit of structure your times will fall .

I got round the Creek Half at 1.55 but i totally underestimated that course . Garhoud Bridge and Makthoum Bridge and Shindhaga Tunnel , dead on my feet at the end . Mistake of not really taking note of course specifics and paid the price !
I’m 70kg and have tonnes of core and leg strength. Form is awful though and obviously a short stride. I normally aim for 52 mins and am happy if I get it. That generally puts me at the bottom of the top half, which must be something like top 15pct of the general population.

Running sucks at the end of the day and is for people who don’t get bored easily (and I’m not one of them).

Amen to that.

I bumped into one of these events previously when I was up there for a golf lesson, looked brilliant.

I'm not either, it's just stubbornness at the moment I think.
That and a genuine desire to move more.

Seeing as we're talking weight, I topped the scales at 111kg before starting all this.
I'm normally about 107kg. I'd be quite happy to be around 100. Ideally just under but weight isn't a big aim at the moment.
This little kick is about moving more and working my heart and lungs so I can stop smoking. If I'm exercising and feeling better it will help me cut down to stopping.
If I'm moving more and healthier in that respect it's a good thing.
If that loses some weight, even better.

I had the same view a few years ago and i got really interested in it when i was in Qatar as Doha is much more boring than running

That aside i use it to measure myself and kind of test myself as it's far different than a team sport which i'd been used to. The thought of a long run on a Friday of 30K is a dread but breaking it down when you're out and trying to get your mind around stopping and pissing off back home is a real mental challenge.

Also like any training regime if you follow a structured programme the progress and improvement comes quite quickly.

.
Yup, that was my issue with training for the marathon. It's just hard to think beyond 10k.

30k takes it to a new level... I only got to that in training by running up Jebal Hafeet and having the car at the bottom so no choice but to go back.

Looping is really difficult as the mind can get the better of you so point and return is the best bet with a stop in for a piss or take fluid on so there's a break up . Its the distance i want in the legs on the long runs not the time.

I use 6 routes of 5/7/10/15/21/30 to try and keep it fresh and the mind guessing a touch . The first 3 can be used for speed work and threshold and the back three for tempo and endurance.

Im planning a 50K bike ride and a tempo 10K run with negative splits tomorrow which will test the achilles

Scamp.

Seeing as you are looking at heart rate training etc, if you are looking to get a sports watch I just found a pretty good deal on the Tom Tom Adventurer with the cardio option (wrist) and music (3gb). I was looking at options over the weekend for a belated Christmas present to myself but didn't bite the bullet. I've done some research online and it gets a 4.5/5 rating.

RRP is $349 (1290 AED) but I got one on Souq for $190 (700 AED).

Quite chuffed.... well I will be if they deliver today as they have stated.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

I'm more curious / interested and that's lead me to follow what level it's at and how effective etc etc. So yeah, I guess I'm using the information now. The apple watch has been doing a stellar job tracking everything but I do wonder if the new one is more worthwhile or if a specialist exercise watch would be better.

Will have a look - thanks for the rec.

No worries. Dunno what the iwatch has as capabilities (hadn't even thought of this) but I was more interested in what you can do with the thing.... which seems to be pretty much everything! It's the interval training and heart rate range monitoring and notifications. I'm all about the train clever approach! Oh and the fact you can uplaod upto 3gb of tunes onto it to play via bluetooth so I don't need to take my phone with me. The software and gps mapping capabilities look pretty sweet too. Quite excited now!
