Telsa
With the wife currently setting up residence in London, she has got in touch with too much fresh air - as well as going vegan (which is unforgiveable!) she is considering purchasing a Telsa!
Anyone have any experience with driving/maintaining Telsa (model s) ?

Re: Telsa
To UKGent, I'm fairly indifferent about cars but if I had plenty of money to spend I'd probably get the Tesla simply for the sake of something environmentally friendly and all that. Well, I'd look at it.

Re: Telsa
The lack of engine noise is the creepiest bit by all accounts, at least for pedestrians. Also the fact that the capacity of the battery is artificially constrained and can be unlocked by software is something that I struggle with. And the car is always connected to a network so I guess somebody at Tesla always knows where you are. But all of that is on the basis of absolutely zero first hand experience whatsoever!
I just can't wait until car ownership is entirely a thing of the past. All that space wasted on vehicles parked 90% of the time: think how transformative that will be for cities. All those resources tied up to make great big space fillers when all of the transport needs of the world could be met with a much smaller fleet more efficiently deployed.

Sick.
Don't know anyone with one apart from Mum's boss in UK but not sure they've had it long.

I'm obviously a luddite, but I just cannot imagine life without the sound of a well tuned V8 accelerating out of an uphill mountain tunnel. (Read scaring people 5h1tless when I power around a Sheik Zayed off ramp).

Id love a Tesla but they haven't really produced one I like yet. Maybe the S, but that looks expensive now the 3 is out and I don't like the 3.
If I was going to be an early adopter of electric cars I'd probably go for a big name manufacturer like BMW over Tesla. They just are not in the top league yet despite all their hype.

A death in her family gave her a part in an inheritance hence no impact on my finances - and this probably has sent her to become a tree-hugger, think about life after death and the environment !
Thanks Millhouse I shall try to steer her towards a hybrid or BMW

From Tesla to Toyota 😁 I'd love to play with a S for a day or two though. The numbers are epic.

Re: Telsa
They're crazy cash.
Would prob go for a Beemer 'I' model instead.
All that said, whats the longevity of them? How long until you have to spend 30% of the purchase price again on new batteries?
Also, they're not that environmentally friendly when you consider the carbon footprint they build up by building them.... battery materials from the environmental wasteland that is China etc. I read somewhere that they potentially don't even equal the carbon footprint of a modern economical petrol car in their lifetime.
They're rapid quick tho.

Re: Telsa
I'm sure there was a report out last week (or before) regarding car reliability, I'm sure Tesla came somewhere near the bottom - so maybe try to find that and have a read.

Re: Telsa
We love ours, it's a company car so not sure how the finances would stack up if we bought privately instead, but we're saving a fortune on petrol/tax/congestion charge etc (we're in the UK) and it's a fabulous car.
OP, maybe you can convince her to just get the Tesla and forget the veganism (shudder)?

Re: Telsa
aren't these a bit of nightmare in terms of where to charge them and what distance you can do on a fully charged battery.
i recently spotted one on SZR and it's a big a*se car.
