Technical browser, vpn question...
Evening all, I've been out in AD for a week now and today I went out and got etisalat broadband. I tried to connect to skype homepage to see if I could phone my girlfriend and it wouldn't let me even though skype to skype is legal
I downloaded a vpn that was recommended on here and tried again and this time got to the homepage so happy that I could call later I moved on to another site and disconnected my vpn to make the connection quicker. Unfortunately I used the back button too many times and my browser went back to the skype homepage and it loaded without the vpn being up and running, rather than blocking it as it did before.
I exited the page straight away but I'm just wondering if theres anyway I could be in the cr#p for accessing the homepage without a vpn running? I don't know much about IP addresses etc so I haven't got a clue if I've done something dodgy or whether I'm worrying about nothing. Thanks for any info.

If it loaded without the VPN running, it was probably just displaying a 'cached' (saved) version of the page from your hard disk, rather than loading it over the internet.
Don't sweat it. Unless 'skype' was a euphamism for 'child pornography', you have nothing to fear.

Might sound silly, but haven't you just got skype software installed?
Last time I checked they couldn't block skype-to-skype, just the homepage to top up credits (I've not used it in a long time though).

Thanks a lot for putting my mind at rest. The "skype" wasn't a euphimism, it was just that lol.
Its just every day I'm here I seem to be able to add something else to the list of things that are "not allowed". Still, can't complain about the weather, and the people I'm working with are top notch, both expat and local so i doubt I'll be going back to Scotland, at least until winters over.

Sorry Northern Lad, just crossed posts. I downloaded skype to somewhere on my computer and that was as far as it went to be honest. I thought I had to log in to skype to work it? I'm going to have to open the file I downloaded and see what happens. To be honest if I had any sense I would have checked all this out in the UK before I needed to use it! I'll check it out now.
