Here is the story... A friend wants to borrow my car to take it to Oman. The car is insured, I can give an NOC for the journey... but I won't be going. Can he actually take it over?

I realise this might be too late... I've had both insurance AND car registration documents checked. I've driven from Al Ain to various bits of Oman 3-4 times over the past 3 months (though not for the last month) and there were quite a lot of military check-points on the main roads - they move about, but we got stopped 3 times on the way to Muscat a few months ago. So I'd make sure the paperwork is correct.
I think, but don't take my word for it, that as long as your insurance covers all drivers, covers Oman, and you give them a NoC and the registration document you should be fine. Does the other driver have a UK or UAE licence? If the former, I'd probably suggest he/she gets an Intl Driving Permit. And I'd do the NoC in Arabic, as one of the soldiers who stopped us spoke next to no English. Finally, if in doubt email your insurance company and get them to confirm in writing that your insurance covers this exact situation - state all the details, including nationality and licence of the driver.

As an update - it seems that my friend took the car there (not sure if he is back yet) - without issue. I gave him the insurance doc, reg. card and a english NOC. I have no idea what docs were checked. When I know, i'll post back...
