Re: SZR Chaos Expected
The maps are not detailed enough - it looks like I might be in an island of the race today at the Marina (i.e. I think the race goes around some of the marina in a loop) so it looks like the roads could be closed all around me.
But the stupid maps are not detailed enough on Gulf News or their own website - are there any better maps or real info on actual road closures?
I got meetings later and if I can't get in our out of my area I'll be well hacked off

from what i could tell yesterday they made it up on a minute by minute basis, it may be a little better today but I doubt it.
I was on the phone to my brother yesterday when the police were closing roads around DIFC, literally all around him, he said they managed to trap him and a couple hundred other cars with no way out, the police also managed to direct them to Zabeel palace gates at one point. oops

1. They're doing what?
2. They're ****ing idiots, how can they do this?
3. Oh this is so typical, I'll update Facebook and tell everyone how mad this place is.
4. Well, how can I get around it?
5. I can't be sure, because the details are so loose and nobody really knows.
6. This place is ****ing crazy, why are they so stupid?
7. OK, I guess I should have expected no clear answers.
8. Schools shut (repeat step 3).
9. **** it, I'll just take my chances in the chaos.

As leaving for work this morning, security told me The Palm is blocked from 11:30 until 4:30. Which, after NYE could mean anything.
I'd happily throw some tacks on the road as they pass by.
****ing ridiculous.

Nothing beats 'George Bush Day'. Think that was about six years ago so some of you must remember it.
Essentially a public holiday announced the previous evening and everyone was told to stay home. if you lived anywhere near his route you were not even allowed on your balcony or a sniper might take you out. It also rained so Dubai was a strange rainy ghost town. Even Bush must have thought it all a bit strange.

Re: SZR Chaos Expected
Just noticed on the dubaitour website mention of removing and reinstating speedbumps.
"Measures have already commenced to settle artificial humps at various roads by where cyclists' are scheduled to pass during the various stages of the event, taking into consideration that these humps to be re-built in succession of the Tour's end."
oh deary

Re: SZR Chaos Expected
I was thinking about how the cyclists would react to the many speedbumps around. Also, if it had been raining yesterday, Emaar Boulevard (as it should still be called) would have been like an ice rink given its marble effect, slippery surface.
