We are only paid handsomely because of the state of this region.

Cannot really blame us for going to school getting an education instead of staying at home burying your head in the sand whilst reading a 2000 year old book.

Bad as Assad is , a Sunni takeover will invariably mean ethnic cleansing of anyone not Sunni Arab; it will be Iraq sectarianism part 2.

you could do that in your own country, but you see yourself as something better than the local population.

i am sure there are plenty of more intelligent people in the new country you reside in, you just lucked out because of english colonialism.

if not you could've stayed home, and braved what you just told me in your own country.

you didn't because the conditions are much better, aren't they?

most of the population is sunni.

how do you assume there will be an ethnic cleansing?

was there ethnic cleansing in other areas of arab spring?

besides most of the areas are imaginary lines drawn by your forefathers to get the black gold!

No, we (and I'm going for the sweeping generalisation here) are out here because the local population are lacking the skills, experience and expertise we have. If expats didn't bring that here the local populace would still be living in tents and herding camels.
Of course the locals have to reward us handsomely using their first world wealth to come to their third world countries so we use our skills for their benefit.

You seem to have a problem with expats keeping these countries functioning. If the locals are capable of doing the jobs we do - Why don't they?

There was ethnic cleansing in Iraq . After Saddam's fall, Christians (the pre Arab-Islamic inhabitants of the region) were driven out of their neighbourhoods by Islamists. Hundreds of thousands of Christians fled their neighbourhoods
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/me...raq/index.html

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2...er-saddam?lite
"While there is no centralized source of information on the number of Christians who have left Iraq, it is estimated that there were 2 million there in the 1990s. That number has fallen to between 200,000 to 500,000 today, according to church leaders."

Ethnic cleansing of Christians in Syria by Sunni rebels.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/worl...oms-syria.html
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/04/op...lism.html?_r=0

Salafists are intimately connected with Anti Assad rebels, and no one needs to be told on how intolerant Salafists are. The Muslim Brotherhood, a milder version of Salafists, are turning the screws on the Copts.

It has becomes quite clear that where ever Islamists take political and military control, they carry out a concerted effort to kill/drive out minorities.

Re. "Most of the population is Sunni"
So what are you saying, that the majority should be able to bully the minority?

the problem i have mike is people look down on local population whilst being there for the lucrative conditions.

tents and camels don't you feel that is the same patronizing attitude i've been talking about?
