Supermarkets
We’re in the UK at the moment and after going to Asda and Morrisons it’s just showed me how crap Dubai supermarkets are.
It’s not just because of the booze and pork but the availability of other stuff is mind blowing. I know there’s obviously no language barrier (even though we’re staying in Immingam lol) but to be able to ask for something and to be told exactly where it is is amazing. This all sounds OTT but this is the first time we’ve been here since 2013 so we’re used to buying something from Park n Shop then going the week after to find it’s not there anymore or asking if they’ve got such and such to be met with a blank face which is a major pain in the arse. Anyway, we’ve bought some beef Space Raiders, Roysters T Bone crisps and two jars of potted dog to bring back. Just need to find Scampi Fries and Cheese Moments. |

Re: Supermarkets
I'd rather walk around every aisle four times before asking for help in a supermarket, regardless of the country...

Re: Supermarkets
Was making some soup and had a hard time in Lulu asking where the Barley was. I suspect they thought I was meaning the island.

Re: Supermarkets
Spinneys / "Waitrose" aren't bad. They're not as comprehensive as UK supermarkets but you do get most of what you need. You just need to pay well over the odds.
Never been impressed by Park and Shop. What I missed the most from the UK were tasty produce and good quality chicken. |

you are so right...I usually shop in Spinneys and the number of times an item is there one week and then not available the following week, is frustrating to say the least....and then you have to wait a good couple of weeks (if not more) until the item is back in stock.
Why are crisps in this country so ******* SHITE? |

There is a Zoom at the bottom of my office building. I go in and buy the same crisps every morning. They ran out. Started buying a different brand. They ran out. Moved onto brand 3. They ran out..... went postal!

Chips Oman

Re: Supermarkets
Never understood the local hype for Chips Oman. Tastes like chemicals. Lays Chilli flavour are much better than Chips Oman, especially in sandwiches.

Re: Supermarkets
Tyrrells?
Plenty of posh crisps from Devon being sold in the GCC these days. I don't eat crisps often as I find them greasy but Tyrrells is decent. |

Anyway, before Scamp scolds me, let me also add that I want everyone to eat the way that makes them happy. Everyone at peace now? |
Re: Supermarkets
Supermarkets here are pony - long gone are the days of going to a decent butcher or getting decent healthy-ish ready meals from Waitrose (their easy cook range was fantastic)
There's also a lack of any good 'food to go' ranges. Boots meal deal was a winner for me. |

Long gone are the days when people would actually cook a meal, modern lifestyles etc are just an excuse not to as it does not take that long to cook up something tasty, healthy and nutritious...ready meals arrrgghhh (unless they are from Marks!)
This week we've cooked a chilli, lasagna, chicken and leek pie, a roast (eurgh) and something else but I can't remember. It's not hard, even if you're as lazy as me. |

Re: Supermarkets
What's the worst thing you ever cooked, Scamp?
I once had the idea of adding cinnamon to steamed spinach. Let's just say that was not so brilliant. |

We just needed something easy which would be fine again for lunch the next day. It was atrocious. Totally made up recipe, just really bland, boring and badly thrown together by me. |
Re: Supermarkets
Well, we got back early Friday morning (taxi queue was horrendous BTW).
Food wise, we managed to pack Scampi Fries, Bacon Fries and a box of liqueur chocolates (£2.75 from Aldi). We were going to bring beef Space Raiders and Royster's T-Bone Steak crisps back but they didn't last the week. Morrisons had proper dripping but I bought brawn instead. I forgot how bloody nice that was. Went to P&S yesterday, so disappointed :( |
