It's amazing.

And they do all that for an hour for about 2 quid. I always take taxis over our company driver - it's just more fun.

Welcome to Egypt...
And one in particular who I remember had to pump his brakes in anticipation of needing to brake. No truer word was ever spoken than when, in response to my request to take me to the end of the road, he said "Insh'Allah".

One rule which I learned in Egypt--and which I rarely break even in civilised places--is that the only place to sit in a taxi or chaffeured car is in the back, behind the passenger seat, with the seat belt fastened. Why behind the passenger seat? So that you can see the bastard driver falling asleep and yell at him when required. If there's no-one in the front passenger seat then I'll remove the headrest, too, so that I can see what's coming. On one trip from Alex to Cairo, early in the morning, in fog, the bloody driver fell asleep, seconds before a jack-knifed artic carrying steel beams loomed out of nowhere, stretched across all lanes. That was 20-odd years ago and the incident is still crystal-clear in my mind.
