Default Stupidly excited about *proper* pork sausages!

I have to share this with you because, well, it's just so exciting!

Proper pork sausages are going on sale in the Al Mayas around the Marina this week... not this horrid 65% pork rubbish, but as near as dammit to 100% as the butcher can get them.

He's already done a batch of Boerwurst (lovely flavour) and was about to start on the chipolatas, pork & lemon and pork & sage... and what's more, he's up for suggestions!

I think I need to go and have a lie down now...

Delete this ASAP. I'm heading over after work and I don't want the sausages to be all gone by then.

I'm not keen on eggs, my mam used to make me scotch tomatoes instead.

well, when I was there, he had a big bowl of minced pork ready to fill the cases, so I reckon that yes, he'd be able to set some aside as sausage meat. I'll pop by in a bit to see how he's got on!

He's only been in the country a couple of weeks and I bumped into him randomly on his first day and casually said how rubbish sausages were here (we were both in the pork section on the customer side, contemplating the stock) and got talking. He's basically starting from scratch and was, at that point, sourcing "proper" casings (not the plastic ones then!)

Best thing would be to get in contact with him and talk about it. He's really up for feedback and I told him that we're all crying out for good sausages!

I don't get this. Park N Shop already make their own range of proper pork sausages. (The large Italian ones are particularly good.) Both Spinneys & Choitrams have OK fresh ranges too. It's not as if you can only buy that frozen Walls crap.

Spinneys and Waitrose stock the same fresh sausages and if you've had a look at the ingredients list (when it's actually on them), they're only 64% Pork, and that's including the fat, which makes them only marginally (like 4%) better than the Wall's offering.

I've never been to Park & Shop so can't comment.

Park N Shop ones are far superior. The butchery section is run by Jack, a proper English butcher and that's where I buy 90% of the meat we eat. Contrary to popular belief it isn't more expensive.

The pork in the Organic Supermarket is surprisingly inexpensive. I bought some frozen pork a while back that was really well priced and was very good quality. Mind you, it's about the only thing in there that is well priced!

They are a good 10dhs a kilo more than the fresh express ones, I checked. The pork at the organic supermarket is excellent value

To be honest, i wouldn't care if it's more expensive (by a little bit, not prohibitively so like the Organic Supermarket's chicken breasts!) as long as it's well-sourced, good quality produce.

Great news then that Al Maya are joining the "quality sausage" offering in Dubai!
