Stay put or run

Wondering if you folks are thinking of running back to the UK due to the Coronavirus and the subsequent flight restrictions/lockdowns? The question is applicable to those on their own in the middle east but having family (partner+kids or parents) back home.

An ideal scenario would be continue to work here but make a quick decision to do a runner if they decide (with about 24 hours notice) to lockdown/ stop flights from the UK. However the risks are
  • They don't give notice and/or they stop you from coming back for an indefinite period of time (again to prevent the spread) which means loss of pay
  • We are better off here as they restricting people going in and out so risk of infection is lower. Also the UK following the strategy of herd immunity, (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/202...ts-us-get-not/) may not be that 'safe'
Another scenario is that a loved one is sick in the UK and you cannot go back because flights are stopped and/or airport closed and/or one is not allowed to reenter for an indefinite period of time.

I everyone has to make their own personal choices but what are people in this situation thinking

Bear in mind that you could also find yourself stuck in the UK and becoming resident for tax purposes by accident.

Do you envision your family needing your help/assistance with day-to-day life if things start to go pear shaped in the U.K. ?

General question for all readers: How much faith do you have in the UAE health care and emergency services compared to the UK, in the event things go downhill in a big way?

When pushed to extremes both will fail.

Her Highness had just decided to come and sit it out in the middle east, (bowed to pressure from the kids) they are off school and the house in the UK hasn't got a pool. The Quality of Heath care facilities didn't play a part in the decision. The availability of flight on the other hand did.

American Hospital and most Mediclinics have nicer corridors, staff and patients than the typical NHS one.

So what did you do?

See you can leave but not come back... don't be surprised if can't leave soon.
