Stay out of the water

“… the capital’s only sewage treatment plant, in Mafraq. It receives more than 450,000 cubic metres of waste water daily, which is almost twice its design capacity.”
“At present some 40 per cent of the outflow from the Mafraq Waste Water Treatment plant is released into the sea due to lack of the infrastructure”
At least they aren’t trying to pretty the facts up. Don’t swim at the Corniche.

I know for a fact that there is a plant in Musaffah that receives so little flow they can just about keep the bugs in the plant alive. Something like a 1/5 of its design capacity.

The bigger problem here is that this water should be used to water grass or cooling not dump it in to the sea.

Dropped into that petrol station this morning on the Hatta Rd after Dragonmart (on the opposite side of the road) and the air smelled awful. Wouldn't like to live there or indeed visit that posh deserty resort hotel nearby.

Re: Stay out of the water
It really stinks. There must be some storage pond or something right there from the main plant.
International city has started on-site sewage treatment (between the buildings and emirates road. There are often dozens of trucks parked up on the international city perimeter ring road...pumping stuff either into our out of manholes in the street and some very temp looking treatment plant devices....not to mention a very visible hole in the ground recently excavated.
I pity the poor people who live on those roads putting up with that noise all the time....especially the poor fools that actually own the buildings. Fortuantely there doesn't appear to be any odour issues yet.
Google earth is showing the goings-on in the northwest corner of int city....including the big hole in the ground.
And if you look near the petrol station you mentioned there is what appears to be some sort of irrigation malarky on the south side of the road.....probably the spraying of tertiary or maybe secondary treated effluent.

Re: Stay out of the water
The real number missing from the article, is what percent of all sewage from Abu Dhabi even reaches Mafraq...

Re: Stay out of the water
Partially correct. TSE outfall is acceptable, raw sewage on the other hand..
TSE is used by PGD (Parks and Gardens Directorate) on the mainland and southern island roadside gardens and grass.

I do wonder about the public fountains though... I sincerely hope it's not TSE, but you can never be sure!

I must admit, I wonder about the fountains - but sometimes I smell chlorine...
