I knocked up a pumpkin soup at Halloween and served it in the pumpkin as instructed...but it fell out of the scary eyes and mouth and made a mess on the table

Make some. It's easier than easy.

Pumpkin in big chunks costs next to nothing in Union Co-Op. Price varies but often just Dhs 2 a kilo. Stop buying veg in Spinney's as it's ridiculously overpriced in there.

I chop them into chunks and put them in the blender/liquidiser, add water in the top to make it a little more liquid once it gets 'sticky'. Do the same with the carrots for scotch broth. I leave the leeks just chopped into slices (I'm sure there is a kitchen term but I don't know it).

Thank you for your reply.
No I like chunky carrots n swede - then I mash down when soft , not to,a purée
though.

How and with what do you chop?
That's the challenging thing for me,carrots no problem but once the swede is
peeled- that 's the bugger.
Leeks Are last to go in and easy to chop.

ergo bloody finger and half a nail.
Do you know an apple corer? We use all the time in U.S for wedges with
Peanut butter.I need a heavy duty apple corer- I might patent that actually.
