Social Media Etiquette
I'm sure a few of you post here, there and elsewhere...
It's quite amusing to me that I've noticed that I have a subtle filter going on - I post opinions, knowledge and links with quite different emphasis and comment on different sites. It's a little schizophrenic I think.
My "bored" personality is usually sort of considered, perhaps with an insider joke, with shared experience type post.
I guess almost like you'd talk to a friend.
I guess that's nice and you're all lovely friends (and perhaps I'm naive and you're all freaks)... very different to my FB, twitter, et al posts....

Re: Social Media Etiquette
I don't post anywhere else, but have done in the past, but I'd say my tone etc is always the same, as that's the way I am both online and in 'real life'...
I've considered getting a new user id on here, but I am sure people would instantly recognise me as I don't think I could keep up pretending to be anyone else by changing my writing style...

i post with a different emphasis on different sites largely cos other sites are more focused on certain areas and interests but i dont think my posting style varies that much.
i'm probably less polite on here than real life but sometimes way more polite, on FB i'm pretty much the same and definately myself as everyone on my fb knows me well, on twitter i'm more polite do few characters to rant properly. in general i really am an intollerant twat and im not that good at hiding it.
i do know people who have distinct online personalities for different sites and frankly i have no idea how the maintain them

Re: Social Media Etiquette
My posting style doesn't really vary, or at least no more so that my face-to-face style depending on who I'm talking to.
I always try to be quite measured on forums, as it's a lasting media and could be referred to in years to come. Here on BE, I can banter a bit more than on a certain other forum, where I feel I have to be very careful about wording things very clearly (different audience). On Facebook I'm at my most real, but then I have a very strict filtering system of who can access/ see what.
I think it also depends on personality type. I know some very shy people who have incredibly huge online personas (social media and MMORPG) and some very bubbly people who come across as rather shy online.

Re: Social Media Etiquette
I think forums have a way of magnifying parts of peoples personalities to some degree, obvious if you are faking or creating a different persona it doesnt apply but in general it seems to emphasise only facets. Possibly this is because people only post on the subjects that interest them so you only get to see that part.
In general I think I am who I am in real life but with the added factor that being reasonably anonymous I can be more honest or frank than I would be meeting people personally.

Re: Social Media Etiquette
I've been mulling this one over.
I suspect that my board persona isn't too far from the real me, although I'd like to think I am a little nicer and kinder in real life.
