Addressing an audience including foreign ambassadors in central London, Mrs May will say the UK will be "the best friend and neighbour to our European partners, but a country that reaches beyond the borders of Europe too".

She will tell the remaining 27 EU member states: "We will continue to be reliable partners, willing allies and close friends.

"We want to buy your goods, sell you ours, trade with you as freely as possible, and work with one another to make sure we are all safer, more secure and more prosperous through continued friendship."

She will call for a "new and equal partnership" with the EU: "Not partial membership of the European Union, associate membership of the European Union, or anything that leaves us half-in, half-out.

"We do not seek to adopt a model already enjoyed by other countries. We do not seek to hold on to bits of membership as we leave."

Seems like a reasonable position.

1688 wasn't even that important in the grand scheme of things.

I think the time for chat and bullshit is over.

Trigger article 50 and ****ing get on with it. There's been plenty of time to plan, it's really very simple:

1. How do we not **** this up?
2. How do we keep the financial institutions happy?
3. How quickly can we just transfer all the EU laws we abide by to British law?

To answer your questions:

1. Stick to no FOM as the red line and hard brexit vision if so it be (and as such the obvious outcome ever since last June).

2. They have no real choice. They will cry no matter what happens, and they will adapt very quickly and forget it. Which is what they always do.

3. The Great Repeal Bill transfers all EU laws into British laws, in due time the UK will repeal the individual EU laws we don't want/like/need. This was pretty clear from TM last summer.

I will say it was better to allow the time to plan and explore the potential options. An immediate hard brexit in July 2016 would have ensured panic but industries and the markets have now had time to prepare for the inevitable, which is probably why the economy has handled the ongoing aftermath decently enough. Better to put up with a few months of whingeing from both sides.

It wasn't very important though, was it.

1. That'll **** things up for a while probably. But it'll keep the Little Englanders who voted Leave very happy....which is what we seem to have ended up with. Keeping people happy rather than trying to be sensible. 'Brexit means Brexit' is literally cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. At least with Trump there's a bit of control over him and some backtracking able to happen.

2. They can vote with their feet. By feet I mean square feet of office space in a place with no more passporting rights. I don't think they will, but they need to be massaged and told everything will be OK throughout this. It's important.

3. So we'll stay under EU laws for a lot longer then. Perfect. Better hide that to keep the Little Englanders happy. Repeat sentence 3 onwards from point 1.

There's been time, there's been chest puffing, bollock spouting and plenty of man hours to come up with a plan with more about it than; keep all the laws until we decide what to do with them, leave the EU, hard and fast. .....because at the moment....that's it.

Sorry (attempts to put on serious face). If you want to be jaded about it then yes, that seems to be the plan. What else can it be? Population voted to leave the EU. Immigration control was the primary concern. We are leaving the EU to control immigration as the EU has made clear no access to single market without FOM. And we will do so in a manner that is dull and sensible to minimise risks.

Leaving the single market is pretty revolutionary in a way. Of course, if you're willing to not be so jaded, there's many opportunities in Brexit. But it's probably not worth getting into it.

Hard to not be 'jaded' when presented with very little. Are you genuinely excited about the short and medium term for the UK? In X years will the UK be in a wonderful place that will have made potentially years of pain worth it, just to not have some Albanians in London?

The architects of this mess have all jollied off into the sunset and left TM to pick up the pieces and try to sort something out. I don't think she has much choice other than a 'hard' Brexit. I don't think the EU really give a shit what she says, I think they're probably fed up with it all and the constant belittling of the worlds second largest economy as if the UK can steamroller it into submission like it's 1914 and we own half the world.

All very odd and arrogant. I just can't wait for the next couple of years of Brexit negotiations and the bullshit that's going to come with it. Sooner it's done with the better.

Remember - it is not really her decision. There are two people in this negotiation.

After it's gone through Parliament of course.

My take on this is that both UK Houses have already conspired to scupper the triggering of Article 50 and then for TM to call a General Election. Both Conservative and Labour parties will campaign with manifestos to "Bremain". Unshackling the EU corpse won't be that easy, the RoI is a case in point.
