It's a bit dated, but only a couple of years ago I read something similar...maybe it was in a copy of my dads angling times.

Why can't this sort of shit be confined to one thread though, it seems every thread descends into this sort of semi religious/immigration/broken britain rant.

Can't it be kept in one area, where the thread subject will make it easily avoidable if you don't want to read it?

I'm quite sad and kinda like model scale stuff... I built my own dolls house as a kid which I loved- would quite happily do that again

If I was building a train station/village etc I might even don a drivers cap and make choo choo noises

my uncle used to a have train set that I would watch in awe as a kid as I wasn't allowed to touch it- just watch. In fact their whole spare bedroom was taken over by it. Would keep him out of trouble as my Auntie used to say.

Nothing sad about having a hobby. I used to paint tabletop miniatures for wargames...knew a lot of great people in my area who came together just for that and met a lot of professionals and other regular people.

I certainly feel having a hobby makes you sane and grounded...and far more interesting than people whose hobby revolves around attending brunches and maxing their credit cards to keep up with the Jones.

Mee: Now Harry what made you first want to try and start summarizing Proust?
Harry: Well I first entered a seaside Summarizing Proust Competition when I was on holiday in Bournemouth, and my doctor encouraged me with it.
Mee: And Harry, what are your hobbies outside summarizing?
Harry: Well, strangling animals, golf and masturbating.
Mee: Well, thank you Harry Bagot.
Harry walks off-stage. Music and applause.
[Voice Over] Well there he goes. Harry Bagot. He must have let himself down a bit on the hobbies, golf's not very popular around here, but never mind, a good try.

More boring than Eric Olthwaite and the Town Hall Raingauge, and his Spear and Jackson No.3 Shovel!

Sorry, there is no longer a YouTUBE link to this Classic TV Series!
The buggers have had it removed!

To me it is thereputic of sorts, when i am injured, gives me something to read and I spend my time planning my dream layout for when I retire (many decades from now).

I used to be into it before teenage years started then gave it up as there was a whole lot of more fun stuff to do.

BTW
Rod Stewart is a big Model Railroad fan, and he actually builds the stuff himself and doesn't just hire someone to make it for him. Below is a pic of his layout.

I built (scratchbuilt) doll houses too, when I lived in Abu Dhabi, before my teen years, and I'm a guy!. I like building stuff with my hands. Theres a pleasure derived from making something out of raw materials.

I agree- I just made a mock up of a catwalk stage last week and loved doing it. I like making things, I don't see how its much different to an architect making a mini scale model. Having said that I always liked woodwork and building any stuff. I'd love a 'workroom', always used to hang out with my dad in the shed as a kid knocking something together.

Bah Humbug to the train set haters!

I love tying my own flies, catching a trout with it and serving it up to family & friends.

There's an innuendo in there somewhere...
