So my lovely company....
....who took me on 4 months ago wanted me to train some of the staff up, I said ok but then early on got one of the biggest accounts to work on, the brochures and artwork is literally twice as good as it is, we make millions from this client and they love my work.
thing is I haven't been able to do any training, I explained to my boss and he said I should do it, I asked for help but got none and also I have no job description whatsoever, so I'm working 10 hour days and usually later on the client,
he now tells me today that because I'm not doing what I was employed for, even though I constantly told him I had no time, and I couldn't fit it on and could we do something about it.....has now told me that I must take a paycut or when my 6 months probation period is up in 6 weeks they'll let me go.
Man I love this country sometimes.....:curse:

What worries me, is if I get another job, which should be easy enough, is how you go about paying back the cash I got for the tenancy, I got AED 70k from them and will need to pay quite a bit of that back, so I'm hoping if I do leave they will wait a few months until the new HR people sort me out?

not sure what your situation will be regarding a labour ban either.

I'm sure it'll be ok as I'm on probation, surely they can't ban me as well?

Hmm. Can you go up the chain & bypass this manager???
FWIW - this is the UAE labour law:

Can't see anything on there about repaying your rent.

Sorry to hear this and I hope it works out for you - I have to say that this sort of thing is not a surprise to me as my husband has worked for many years in the construction industry in UAE - many companies are cheap skates and in our experience the British Companies are no different to others. The best way to survive here is to work on the basis that everything is temporary and it could all change tomorrow.

Spugsy, if you looked for another job, I'm curious as to whether or not the new company would help you out with the rental situation? If not, then maybe it would be better to take the wage cut, and look for another job in 12 months when the rent is due for renewal. That would depend though on your personal circumstances and how much of a wage cut they will make you take.
