Re: Sin Tax
Is that the new Red Lion at the Metropolitan? How is it?
I remember the old one with the outside beer garden. Used to go there quite often. We used to watch the ladies and punters arrive at Rattlesnake.

Last weekend was Thurs night after work until about 1:30, decent night with a nice buzz. Friday brunch (Coya) followed straight after by a Metro stop pub crawl stag do. Saturday was a brunch in The Red Lion followed by beers during 2 games of football. I'd already taken Sunday off in prep. Monday was horrible too.
For me that's too much.

Actually some of the bands they had in Rattle Snake were pretty good.
So I was told.

Re: Sin Tax
Now at airport gate and update regarding gibberish name on ticket:
QA won't check me in because the HK doesn't match my first name on passport. BA, as expected, is completely unreachable by phone. BA has clearly ****ed up my ticket, probably when their system redirected my e-ticket to QA.
Cue: hand over credit card, book me a one way ticket to Edinburgh and I'll sort this out with BA at the Edinburgh airport tomorrow morning.
Will I get a refund for the 3500 QAR I had to pay? I suspect not but as long as I can still fly the rest of my ticket onward to the US next weekend and back to Doha I'll be content. Crossing fingers there's a level headed and competent BA staff at Edinburgh airport.

Re: Sin Tax
That's the one. It's alright. It's where we watch the football now. Lots of TV's, decent staff, decent menu.... whats not to like.
Totally. Kept it nice and light this weekend. Even stayed in on Friday night. Had a few last night for the game but at a snails pace so fresh...ish today!
Sounds a shitemare. Good luck in Edinburger..... It's not the biggest of airports tho so you may have some phone time to BA in your future.

Re: Sin Tax
I don't drink fizzy drinks at all so that doesn't affect me, however, I am very curious to see today whether my fags have gone up in the airport. This is clearly stated as a duty on tobacco and the airport is supposed to be duty free. I shall know by mid-afternoon.

Re: Sin Tax
I recall on some radio programme that it was specifically mentioned that the authorities had said that it would not apply to cigarettes on departure but would apply on arrival. Anyway, I'm as sanctimonious about smoking as most other things so I have to say: please take this as an opportunity to stop! You'll be so glad you did... Not just the money and the health but how much better you and everything else feel and smell and taste...
