Here's an interesting piece from CHarlie Brooker on the media coverage of the Norway shootings:

Pretty good article, this wasn't the first time the 24/7 TV news speculated on large news events. I recall in the 7/7 bombings Sky News reporting explosions in areas that were later revised.

24/7 news coverage is a good thing right?

Sorry. I don't read the Guardian.

But let me guess.

Blah blah blah, liberal white guilt, blah blah blah, how dare we link this to Islam/Muslims, blah, blah blah, photo of pretty Muslim girl laying flowers on memorial site, blah blah blah.

Am I right?

If you have so much time to fill what do you do? Speculate? Get so called experts on? Get carried away?

I guess they have to really, I mean do we need so many 24/7 news channels?

Seemed like more anger than guilt to me.

It is utterly ridiculous how people are now saying "oh, it was a right-wing extremist acting alone and not the Muslims, so it's not terrorism".

Unfortunately when you hear terrorism the first thing a lot of people think of is Muslim.

I don't. But then I dodged IRA bombings twice, and the relative of a friend died in one of the London nail bombings.

*shrug*

Probably not, I must confess to only watching Sky News for the weather girls.

No doubt there will be many who think that this is a fair representation. But as another poster has reminded us the UK was terrorised for years by Irish Republicans.

Years ago in South Africa the ruling Europeans were terrorised by the majority of the population.

But I guess its only terrorism if Muslims are involved, as long as they are the perpetrators. George W Bush has a lot to answer for.
