"A Saudi preacher who raped his five-year-old daughter and tortured her to death has been sentenced to pay “blood money” to the mother after having served a short jail term, activists said on Saturday."

"They said the father had doubted Lama’s virginity and had her checked up by a medic."

The activists said that the judge had ruled the prosecution could only seek “blood money (compensation for the next of kin under Islamic law) and the time the defendant had served in prison since Lama’s death suffices as punishment.”

Three Saudi activists, including Manal Al Sharif, have raised objections to the ruling.

The ruling is based on Islamic laws that a father cannot be executed for murdering his children, nor can husbands be executed for murdering their wives,"

When some Sri lankan maid was executed recently for murder, a lot of apologists, including westerners, were supporting Saudi Arabia saying "it is a safe country because they have justice for all", "she shouldnt have murdered the child "etc. etc., wonder what they would think

The only crumb of comfort to be derived from this is that is contributing just one more blow to the rotten, tottering structure that is sustaining the medieval theocracy in KSA. The reporting of this will further expose and weaken the grip of the zealots. They won't go quickly or quietly or without a fight but they are clearly on the defensive and losing ground every day.
