Salalah hotels

Anyone been to Salalah? What hotel would they recommend?

Also, does anyone know if UAE cars are still unwelcome in Oman?

I went to Salalah recently. Stayed at the Crown Plaza which is a 5 minute drive from the airport. The main three hotels are the Crowne Plaza, Marriot or Hilton. The Marriot is a fair drive away from Salalah, but supposedly has decent diving. The Hilton is just down the coast, but i believe has a beach view of the port which may be off-putting. The Crown Plaza is nice in a slightly dated way, but the beach is good and the staff friendly.

I asked about this quite recently so you'll find the thread if you do a search...

holy cr*p you're not going to drive from Dubai to Salalah are you?

It's the road signs that say 1100 km to Salalah that put me off

erm, actually the biggest problem at the moment is, yes, UAE cars are not popular in Sohar. In Muscat, not really an issue.

but..... holy cr*p you're not going to drive from Dubai to Salalah are you?

(oh, and stay at the Crowne Plaza)

Yup planning on driving... why not? Only 11 hours... and I wasn't planning on doing it one go!

Thanks - will take a look for how we get their while avoiding Sohar (if that is possible). I was coming to the conclusion of the Crowne Plaza

Not doing it just yet anyway - planning on going in August just to take the drive even more awful.

1100Km is doable. I have driven 13 hours with just breaks for food and restroom.

I would do it, the weather really isn't an issue in an air conditioned car and a hotel with a swimming pool.

A 12 journey is going to get boring no matter where you are. I am planning a trip to Salalah (in August/September Millhouse so beware!) but we'll be flying there.
