Re: Russell Brand
well I think he is funny, I liked his Ponderland and I like him as a guy, and I think he is very charismatic and attractive.
Agreed Steve Martin is not funny.

Re: Russell Brand
Cancelled for his own safety apparently. He is quoted as saying:
'I suppose there's an indication that it might be offensive. Probably if you are in some sort of fundamentalist group in Abu Dhabi and then you Google my name and then watch a few things on YouTube, you'll probably think: "Yeah, just don't bother having him here. Get someone else".
'I think you're safety is never guaranteed at any point. Death awaits. So I was like "Oh please, I really want to go to Abu Dhabi". For me that makes it more of appealing idea (to perform if my safety isn't guaranteed). I said my safety is never guaranteed at any point - I'd still come if you want.'
Hmm smacks of a desperate attempt at provoking controversy and a bit of free publicity. Can't stand the bloke personally, seems to exude an aura of a naughty sixth former. I guess the only threat to his safety here would be heat stroke or getting knocked over on a pedestrian crossing.

Re: Russell Brand
We've done this before, but for what its worth I think Steve Martin falls into the "genuinely funny but, unfortunately, has done some crap" category. Planes, Father of the Bride, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels are all funny.

Re: Russell Brand
Oh yes. Steve Martin's not in that, is he? (Although Nicholson with a sticking plaster across his nose is Martinesque.)

Re: Russell Brand
It does a huge disservice to Abu Dhabi for Brand to claim he has been warned off by threats from 'fundamentalist' groups. How morons like him can be allowed to spout such rubbish and not be challenged is something else.
He is probably in greater personal danger in London.

Re: Russell Brand
Always thought 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' was a bit overrated (memo to self: add John Candy to the Unfunny List) - Martin's best work would have to be 'Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid' - now that was clever and funny.
Dennis Pennis got it right:
"Steve Martin - how come you're not funny any more?"
