..........most of the packages available in the UK are said to have been sold (and the Sunday Nazigraf reported last week that it was a complete sell-out) but I'm hearing stories of tickets available locally..........
Strange.
I suspect many will simply turn up as word spreads that it's a good tournament (which it will be).
Stop me and say 'hello' if you see me - I'll be the tall idiot trying not to look self-conscious with a clipboard in hand............

Two issues i'd say....1) recession makes everyone less likely to shell out 400+DHS (obvioulsy) and 2) The IRB bought the bullsh1t that Dubai somehow 'loves' 7s rugby. In the same way that your average Thursday night at Nad Al Sheba bore no relation to world cup weekend, it's not the rugby that attracts crowds every Nov/Dec - its the breath of fresh air in a stale social calendar. Dubai fills the 7s each year because it is a widely known social event - the 7sRWC is different, its new and its going to be quite empty i think. We are using about 10% of the tickets allocated to us.

The point is surely that 'Sevens rugby' is in most ways now far more entertaining than the 'stick the ball up your jumper' madness that 15-a-side has become. More and more people realise this, and will pay to watch it........
........ at least that's the theory. I have lost count of the number of people who have told me over the years "I only went to the Sevens for the piss-up but I ended up thoroughly enjoying the rugby" (or similar)....... but as you say, it's all very new.
Those spare tickets - give them away to a local school............
