Re: Royal Split
They, at least Meghan, have $$$$ signs in her eyes. That's what all the talk about being financially independent despite a whopping great private fortune is all about. It's SussexRoyal branded candles (environmentally sustainable, of course), fat speaking fees, cameo roles in B-list film productions or even Netflix. That's why the Queen kicked them out firmly, saying the only way it could happen was to completely step down as working royals, no half in and half out.
It was never about stepping back on duties to live quietly and raise kiddos for a few years. Will and Kate did that and did receive some flak for it, FYI. Meghan and Harry could have done that just as easily. Hey, the six week holiday they took in Canada with nary a paparazzi in sight and nary a photo released. Now all of a suddenly the press is finding her at random airports and in the woods and shopping for groceries? I wonder how they knew where she would be. Just like her lady bountiful visit to a local women's charity the other week, with press photo ops available for all and sundry. Gee, whatever happened to the privacy they wanted?
Personally, I think Harry's a dunce. I don't think he really understands what's going on or the consequences of his actions or what a future hawking crap on cable and online really means. I think the lady is a narcissist, who genuinely believes one thing inside her head while her actions are screaming something else.

But that's not what they're really doing, isn't it?

The butthurt is strong here, you'd moan if they 'leeched' off the tax payer, now you moan they want to be independent because it's greedy. I really don't understand the nastiness towards the royal family and especially Harry who appears to be trying to drag it into the 21st century

What if, just maybe, it's genuine?

The issue you seem to be glossing over with your butthurt comments (did you miss your way to the reddit forums?) is that people don't respond well to royals cashing in on their royal status to make money. It's as plain and simple as that. The Duchy Originals profits all go to charity, not Charlie Boy's pockets. I suppose it comes out of this weird place the royals occupy, they're an incredibly privileged family on many levels that is out of place in the modern world and makes no sense, but we accept it out of tradition and heritage and history and even like that aspect of it, but as long as they don't seem to be abusing their roles.
I am sympathetic to the notion of privacy and I would have been more supportive of Harry's escape from the gilded fishbowl if it also wasn't blatantly driven by the desire to make money for his lady wife who was clearly bored and frustrated with the royal role. They claimed they had to run away to Canada because of the nasty and racist British press, and barely a week later they're suing the Canadian paparazzi for taking photos and ironically enough, Canada doesn't have anywhere the level of strict press regulation the UK has especially for royal privacy. The couple have, at times, shown themselves to be especially obtuse, complaining about feelings while on tour to the poorest countries in the world, demanding privacy and then moving to a land that has very liberal press freedom, and making a swan song speech that was utterly woe is me at an AIDS charity event.
It's like watching a very bad sitcom so far. Or a car crash in action.

Re: Royal Split
If they sold everything they own and donated every penny the rage machines (like below) would just start attacking for something else.
I'm not ignoring anything about the Queen, I didn't make any reference to her or about what she has or hasn't done, so don't be silly.
Harry's pursuing a different way. It might not be better or worse but he's going to be Prince Harry until he dies and what he does will still be very relevant as a senior royal, whether currently being referred to as that tittle formally or not. To think otherwise is bizarre.
Who says they're cashing in? That's an awful lot of supposing and accusing and opinion. Maybe they will, maybe there'll be a Daily Mirror expose one day of Harry selling access to something for a few grand. Maybe there won't. Maybe they'll disappear for a while, who knows?
Anyway, you're basically evidencing my point, they could do anything and people (like you are) will hunt and rant about the negative. He's at an AIDS charity event and addresses a huge elephant in the room. Was it the whole speech or just part of it? Was his presence at the event and support of the charity more worthwhile than a few minutes of talking about something quite large in the nation press? Probably.
How exactly is Harry dragging the RF into the 20th century when he's effectively left the RF? Your comment also ignores it's the Queen more than anyone else who's modernised the royal family and continues to do so.

Grown men tittle-tattling like schoolgirls.

Maybe she just got to see how it is on the inside for a royal heir and didnt want that for her son? A mom being protective?
So what if 5 or 10 years down the road the dad decides that it was a bad idea and wants back in?
Or 20 years later the kid wants back in? then what?

I wonder how many people would be ok with their grandmother dictating the direction of their life. Is it any wonder Harry wanted to leave it all behind.
