Default Room 101 - words & expressions

I am sure there are masses of words and phrases that annoy my fellow BE posters. Those that irritate me include

Hubby (so twee)
Peeps (Are you six?)
Sleeps, as in 2 sleeps until... FFS it's nights, unless you are 3 years old
Myself - when the person should just say me, but use myself as they imagine it sounds better.
Shouldn't of in place of the correct shouldn't have (see also fed up of instead of fed up with)
Fairly unique - you can't qualify the word unique. Something either is or it isn't

And that's just for starters...

Anyone caught speaking using a web type acronym (i.e. lol, brb) should be hung from the nearest suitable structure!

The word "basically", annoys me when it is used willy nilly, which a lot of South Asians tend to do, especially the women.

"Gay" to describe any object or situation that is not to one's liking, quite prevalent amongst American youth, High School students and fellow young people. In the same vein, the use of the word "retard" is also quite prevalent amongst this same demographics.

"Closure" , for a time this word was bandied about by American media in the 90s-00s.

Oh and " innit " by some young Brits.

Phrases:
"thinking outside the box". It is a usefull phrase to describe a certain mindset and I am not aware of an adequate alternative but annoying nonetheless to hear it often.

Depends if the second B refers to Beer or Beemer....

In the second case, the guilty party would also qualify for the Richard II treatment

Miss Anne Thrope is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Room 101 - words & expressions

Between x to y.

Lately I'm hearing it all the time on TV and radio, even on the flaming BBC.

Do you mean "from x to y" or "between x and y"? Which is it?

There is critical differentiation of meaning being lost here with easily avoidable lazy use of language.

Oh yes, and while I'm at it, "the Maddy-gnat"... More nonsense.

Meh. Apparently it was a screamer. I've refused to watch the last few derbies because I'm bad luck.

Don't really mind the result. We are going to win the league, with it moving back to our rightful place in the top flight of English football, they however are getting relegated and closer to a non-event of a local Sunday league team paying £2.50 each to train on a Tuesday night on Southsea common - not sure if it get's much better than that.
