I guess you'll have a slightly different prospective on it since if I recall your married to a Nigerian, and will have spent a lot more time there than me. However my two trips gave me nothing but food poisoning and security issues. Try walking around as a white man in the south of NigerÍa and I wouldn't expect happy and friendly would be the most commonly used adjectives. But I guess if you have family your experience will be different.

To be fair, I was joking. I felt bad picking on the Middle East and randomly chose a place.

Never been to North Wales?

Wales is beautiful. So why is it pointless?

Last but not least it's not a 'country.'

Speaking of pointless countries, what about Slovenia? Lovely place, friendly people but there's no reason for its existence as a separate nation and no one would bat an eyelid if it was absorbed into Austria.

Wasn't there a poll several years ago where Nigerians came out as the happiest people in the world? I was living in West Africa at the time and I recall nobody being more shocked than the Nigerians who pointed to all of the miseries to which they were subjected (starting with NEPA..) but managed to turn the whole thing into a big laugh, kind of proving the point... Nigerians may not be generally as charming as other West Africans, say Ghanaians or Beninois, but usually great fun.

Lagos is intense but there is an edge of excitement to it which places like Dubai lack and if you know what you are doing can be very enjoyable. Not for everybody, granted, but Nigeria is definitely not a place to get rid of.

It's called PHCN now - Power Holding Company of Nigeria. Rather apt, don't you think? I think someone was having a bit of a giggle when they made that one up.
