I don't follow. If it was a dig, be more obvious...I'm not great with subtle.

I always buy a new mug for my tea when I start a new job.

Thought everyone did.

I thought it might be something like that.
Yeah, you might be right.

I just use whatever mug is available, coffee at work can be in anything and of a range of quality levels, it's for a purpose not enjoyment.

Appraisal finished with me being given 'at next suitable opportunity' (read: pay review time) a promotion.

Got stiffed on bonus. Got less than 50%. Earned more in 2014 than I did in 2016.

Pointed out this is bullshit. Waiting for pay review and to see what they wish to do.

There is no way on Earth I'd back out of an argument that I've not done enough to earn a sensible review.

The way I see it:

1. Give me good size raise for being a hero.
2. Give me **** all / small raise because that's what you want to pay this role....then replace me when I've found something else to move to.

I'm sort of relaxed about it, but it's dominating my world at present making it hard to concentrate and motivate myself to bust a gut....hence the increased activity on here.... it's obviously very important to me and the business has an opportunity to reward me in line with peers in different divisions / work streams. If not, it's fine, I'll be genuinely gutted because I like this firm and enjoy being part of it but I'll have to leave to continue a sensible path of growth+reward rather than being laughed at.

We'll see.
I'm on holiday from next Thursday and it's meant to be done this month, so I don't hold my breath.
I didn't mean it in a patronising way but in your position I would leave, you have outgrown the role and promotion is obviously now causing you to step on someones toes.
Don't threaten to leave, just organise the next job and hand in your notice.

Possibly right there.
I'm happy with the role, I enjoy it mostly and enjoy the remit I have. I'm just not rewarded for it.

So part two of your post is already underway. Met a few other firms. We'll see.

Anyway, moving away from work issues.

I'm going to put angry golfers into Room 101.

Anyone who throws clubs, tantrums or their ball.
Anyone who hits a ball off a green (potentially damaging it).
Anyone who shouts or screams (calling yourself a useless idiot is acceptable if not shouted).
Anyone who gets stroppy.
Anyone who tells you how frustrating it is to play badly.
Anyone who tells you they're normally so much better than this.
Anyone who overhits a shot in and then tells you how strong they didn't know they were.
Anyone who is miserable in a buggy.
Anyone who just plain spoils a part of your round by being angry, petulant, childish, grumpy or aggressive.

So can we just put golfers in?

Because essentially they're all dicks.

Fundamentally, I am a bit of a dick.

But not all the time.....but I am a golfer.

So I'm saying, no unfortunately. It's a gentleman's / ladies game spoiled by the odd rotter.

Or, as Mark Twain said, Golf is a good walk spoiled.

Room 101 has now been tainted with stench of corruption....

The whole premise is ruined due to Scamp and his shit game.

When did this become a dictatorship? Who made you Paul Merton or is it Stephen Fry (I can't remember)?

In, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in etc

Edit. I said 'Golfers', not 'Golf'....

Room 101 is supposed to be 'the worst thing in the world' according to George Orwell and frankly golf is just too dull to fall into that category. Who can get excited enough about it to care? Most soporific 'sport' ever.

Fine. In the balance of fairness and to try to remain impartial, I suggest we proceed as follows:

Golf as a sport - No
Golfers - Yes....because there are too many knob jockeys. I've played with them. Think Americans during Ryder Cup week. Eurgh.

OK, by Orwellian standards maybe thats true, however, this is the ME board of BE and quite a lot has already gone in that couldn't exactly be described as 'the worst thing in the world'.......
