John Lennon above Robert Plant? Song writers, maybe but singers, no. Elvis is over-rated too. Where is Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby? What about Janis Joplin? In the modern era, Mariah Carey was pretty good in her day, but no longer perhaps. I would rate Luther Vandross above some of his soul mates.

and the same goes for bob dylan - he sounds like a duck with a cold honking away with a bin over its head,
the last 3 though:
Otis Redding
9. Stevie Wonder
10. James Brown
absolutely amazing.

bit weird that the majority of them are from the motown era though..
stevie wonder should be in the top 5 though.

think that this might have something to do with the voters who were asked to vote - motown is prob what most singers /voters were brought up on and the reason why post 1990 singers are not included

Re: Rolling Stone magazine's Ten Best Singers Of All Time
You may like him - but if anyone tries to suggest Morrissey is one of the top ten singers of all time, I will hunt them down and get very very cross with them indeed.............
I had assumed the category was based on 'voice' rather than say 'legendary status' but I could be wrong (John Lennon?? Great contributor to the history of popular music, of course, but one of the best voices ?? Don't think so - he sang through his nose).
The votes were supposedly applied to the 'rock era' which might rule out Sinatra, Crosby, etc............ and if you want a genuine 'power rock' vocalist, Jon Bon Jovi must be included.........

And which boy band did you want in the top ten?
But then again at your age it would probalbly be The Bay City Rollers, Davis Cassidy or The Osmonds !
